A unique feature of the proposed mining operation is that ore production will occur from several deposits spread over a 60 km distance. API intends to ensure that mining, rail and port operations are coordinated to produce uniform product grades for shipping. API recognises the importance to iron and steelmakers for an iron ore product to be delivered with low variability.
Product quality will be monitored by installing sampling equipment at the mine crushing and train loading locations. This will provide in-time grade information to ensure that geological models and mining schedules are continually reviewed and updated. Additional sampling facilities will be installed at the port as part of the stockpiling and shipping operations for the production of West Pilbara Fines. Laboratories will be constructed at the port and mine for sample analysis.
