AUSTRALIAN PREMIUM IRON JOINT VENTURE (APIJV)

APIJV is an unincorporated joint venture, comprised of two participants, Aquila Resources Limited (Aquila) and American Metals and Coal International Inc (AMCI).  Both companies hold a 50% participating interest in the venture via wholly owned subsidiaries.  APIJV was inaugurated in February 2005 with the objective of developing a long-term iron ore export operation in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The APIJV is managed by API Management Pty Ltd (API) in Perth, Western Australia.

Aquila is a publicly listed company based in Western Australia with substantial iron ore and coal interests in Australia; iron ore in Western Australia; and iron ore, manganese and coal interests in southern Africa.

AMCI is a private global mining, investment and trading corporation operating in the resources industry, with operations in Australia, USA, Europe, China, South Africa and Latin America.

The APIJV controls iron ore rights to one of the largest tenement portfolios across the Pilbara region (approximately 10,000 km²). Some 8,000 km² is focused in the west Pilbara, in four primary project areas, some accessed by joint venture with other companies.

Since the formation of APIJV, various commercial arrangements have been entered into with third parties in order to explore for and develop iron ore resources in prospective areas in the Western and Central Pilbara region. The projects managed by API are:-

The West Pilbara Iron Ore Project Stage 1 includes deposits encompassed within the West Pilbara - Mt Stuart Iron Ore Joint Venture with Cullen Exploration Pty Ltd and the West Pilbara - Red Hill Iron Ore Joint Venture with Red Hill Iron Limited.
